I had an eight hour layover in Dubai on my way home (with Delta) which was enough time to take a Big Bus Tour of the city and get to explore the crazy malls they have there. The Dubai Mall has 1200 stores including 300 restaurants. Of course you've heard of the indoor skiing in the dessert. One ski run has a 1200' run and can accommodate 1500 skiers. Such opulence and extravagance was quite a backdrop from my previous two weeks in Ethiopia. How can we take what we have here and share it to those just a few hours away by plane. Not in the way of welfare but in the way of infrastructure and ingenuity. If they can build an island in the ocean that is 3 1/2 miles by 3 1/2 miles and top it with 30 five-star hotels, certainly we can figure out how to provide clean, safe drinking water for those who have not.
