Tonight in Ethiopia
I'm on a 28K wireless USB modem tonight that I borrowed from our tour guide - remember 28K? We drove about eight hours south for a debrief on our trip. It was quite an adventure as about half of the roads were not paved. We had to drive through a couple of cattle drives as well. About halfway through the drive today Leesa was experiencing quite a headache and ask the driver to pull over immediately. We were in the middle of nowhere. I hadn't seen a home for many miles. As we were resting along side of the road, Denny spotted a boy laying on the side of the road. He went up to him and through our tour guide as an interpreter asked the boy what was wrong. He was about 15 and had been working at a cotton plantation about 180 kilometers away when he contracted malaria. He was about 30 kilometers away from home on day two of his journey when he collapsed on the side of the road. We got him some food, water and money to pay for a ride as we were heading the opposite direction. We started pulling away and Leesa said we needed to do something more so we stopped and I hopped out just as a truck was approaching from the other way and I waved down the driver. He stopped and told us that he would take the boy to the next city where he could receive treatment. It all started with a headache and ended with helping this very sick boy.
